The Pace is Relentless

Grant Burrows stepped off the buss to find himself walking past him.

By John Irvin

Today’s spotlight is an old favorite: Relentless by Robin Parrish.

Funny how sometimes you just randomly meet a book and before you know it, you’re best friends.

That’s right, I said book, not person.

I was hanging with a friend one day back in college and we stopped by a small dollar store. I saw this book on the shelf, the friend had read it before and recommended I try it.

So I bought it and started reading that night. I couldn’t put the crazy thing down it was so good.

You might say, it was relentlessly grasping my attention.

I was finished with it in a couple days, reading in between classes and homework. I immediately bought the second and had that finished shortly thereafter. The third one hadn’t been released and that was hard.

A friend heard about my love for this series and he pre-ordered the third book as a gift for me.

Make sure you click through to my video here.

Grant Burrows is your average Joe. He hasn’t had an interesting life up until this moment. He’s been Shifted. Someone else is now wearing his face and living his life, he’s someone else.

Oh, and he also has powers. He can affect things around him just by thinking about them.

There’s a whole underground society, a prophecy, and many more shocking revelations. He finds allies and enemies everywhere! By the way, they also find out the hard way, you don’t ever want to push Grant Burrows too far.

So, what is this whole thing about destiny?

Who are the game makers?

An Alien Invasion Apocalypse Story

Hold tight! We’re about to go through the end of the world!

By John Irvin

Today’s spotlight is on another favorite of mine: The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey.

This was one of those books I was holding off to watch the movie. I wanted to read the book first, but in the end, I caved and finally watched the movie. I enjoyed it immensely as I knew I would, but, with no continuation, I knew I NEEDED the books pronto.

Shortly thereafter, I walked into BooksAMillion here in town and found in the back the entire trilogy on sale! You know I grabbed it.

          I wasn’t disappointed AGAIN.

I’ve read the first two books and will be reading the finale soon.

Make sure you watch my episode covering The 5th Wave published by G. P. Putnam’s Sons.

The 5th Wave is a young adult science fiction novel written, as I said earlier, by Rick Yancey.

Earth is undergoing an alien invasion by apocalypse. There have been four previous waves, the survivors are wondering the what the fifth—and most like final—wave will be.

Cassie is all alone. The story starts with her.

She’s lost her mother to death, her father to murder, and her brother has vanished. She has a promise to keep. She’ll find her brother if it’s the last thing she does.

By the way, there’s a boy…or young man…who saves her life.

But what does she know about him?

The aliens have turned humans against each other. You don’t know who you can trust. The aliens look like us, so how do you know who’s human or who’s alien?

Atlanta has a Post-Apocalyptic Supernatural set in its borders

This is still my top favourite urban fantasy series!

By John Irvin

I don’t have a guest star today, so I want to hark back to the good ole days. Remember one of my very first blogs was about one of my top favourite series? Yesterday, talking about my friend’s supernatural thrillers had me reminiscing about the Kate Daniels series.

To be open, I kinda want to re-read that series—all ten books are sitting on my top book shelf, I’m looking at them while I’m writing this, in fact.

For today, make sure you watch my episode covering the first book, Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews and published by Ace Books.

Kate Daniels—mercenary, assassin, paranormal agent, to name a few vocations—has a few rusty and jagged edges. Living in Atlanta, Georgia in a world where Magic and Tech battle for control over the Earth will do that to a person. But, even with her tough-girl outer persona, Kate has an inner sense of humor that pops out without notice. The authors developed a strong, saber-wielding heroine for this series.

Like an outstanding paranormal fantasy should, the story begins with a vampire giving Kate Daniels a mission to uncover the mystery behind the murder of a knight-diviner, Greg Feldman—her former-Guardian.

Her quest of vengeance puts her in the middle of a all-encompassing war between the Pack—a ring of hundreds of shape-shifters led by one called the Beast Lord—and the Masters of the Dead, the mind-navigators of the vampires, otherwise known as necromancers.

Going head-on with the Beast Lord, Curran, Kate Daniels finds in him an unlikely ally and, possibly, an unlikely romance. Though their words seem to portray an acidic contempt for each other, there is this smoldering heat underlying their actions.

The story—though fantastic—is believable and the characters seem to jump off the page and act out their scenes right there in the room with the reader. Instilling them with their own back stories that are only uncovered over the course of the plot, giving them obvious emotional baggage, Ilona Andrews did a superb job in creating living beings.

If you are into dark fantasy like me, maybe even have a thing for strong female characters, then this will easily become one of your all-time favourite series! Click this link to go buy: Magic Bites.

I have a Friend who is a Poet

Her poetry warms my heart, reminds me of old wounds, and shows me how I’ve grown and what I’ve learned.

By John Irvin

Today’s episode on my YouTube channel stars one of my favorite poets! Make sure you click through this link below and watch my friend, Chelsee BreAnn, as she talks about why she wrote her latest book.

Words, Poison, and Love by Chelsee BreAnn is a heartfelt work that will take you on a journey. This journey belongs to a girl who has learned to love herself and give herself the happiness she deserves.

A therapeutic read, this book brings painful subjects to the forefront.

Sometimes, I feel like the story isn’t just about the girl, but about all of us. We all have heartaches we struggle through. We all get hurt.

We sometimes live life only accepting love—if you can call it that—we think we deserve, when we truly deserve something more.

I want my readers to click through this link below and order a copy of Chelsee’s book. The poetry will bring tears to your eyes and it will also make you smile. It has mine.

The progression is invigorating as well. When you go from heartbreak to empowerment, you just know anything is possible.

So click through this below and order!

When you’ve read the book and enjoyed it, make sure to write a review on its Amazon page. We writers covet your reviews.

After you order, also, click the Follow button on her Amazon Author Page so you can stay up to date with her journey.

When the Wolf-Born needs to leave his Homeland

He’s lost so many loved ones, he doesn’t know what he stands for anymore, so he needs to wander until he can find himself again.

By John Irvin

Today’s trailer can be found through this link to my YouTube channel! Click through to watch the short little reel.

Ihon Iraes (pronounced Ian Eraze) has lost so many people he’s loved. There are sacrifices you must make when you’re a Wolf-Born. Wolf-Born could be considered immortal when it comes to human longevity standards.

The average lifespan of a Wolf-Born is 1,100 years. So you know they’re going to have countless friends and lovers who are human who they will lose every century.

This is why most Wolf-Born maintain a cold distance from humans or keep to themselves in their own Capital, Sanguiatro.

Having not learned his true identity his fifties, Ihon, did not have this kind of upbringing and thus finds it extremely hard to not fall in love with humans.

Now in his fifth century, Ihon is exhausted. He finally makes a break for it southward to England, then to France. Before you know it, he’s wandering the wilderness of humanity.

So many different feminine connections teach him things or bring him closer to finding himself.

After his last run-in with the Supreme Council of the Wolf-Born Race, Ihon has had it. There’s news of a New World beyond the Atlantic Ocean. He takes a ship and joins the cruise to Jamestown, Virginia.

A whole new plot opens up before our hero. What adventures will he attend now?

Wandering is the third installment in my Longevity series. I need to stress right here, though the first two books are in hardcover, paperback, and ebook formats, this book is only in ebook format for the present.

Being open here, there was some major issues with the formatting for the hardcover so I’m putting that off for now as I’m tired of spending so much just to fix my former contractor’s mistakes.

So, if you do see a hardcover format, do NOT buy it! The link below is for the ebook.

That all being said, it’s still a finished book so you can enjoy it on Kindle!

Either way, this is the episode for my last published book for now. Next phase for the 90-Day Author’s Assault will turn to fellow authors’ works. Some of this authors are friends of mine, so make sure you support them. Other books I will be reviewing are favourites of mine so make sure you grab those copies too!

Here is the link to Wandering:
