When the Sirens are reluctant

They don’t want to kill people. They really don’t want to. But they’re forced to.

By John Irvin

A high fantasy: The Siren by Kiera Cass.

I’ve read a few of Cass’s works and I’ve always enjoyed them. You also know that I enjoy anything that has to do with mermaids…well, almost anything. I actually don’t like mermaids who eat people. I don’t care if she sings pretty about me being her sailor beau. *wink*

I have to make a quick comment about the cover. First thought, shiny! Second, why is the girl running away from me? Should I run after her?

I’d like to think, the fact I bought the book said I ran after her.

          I wasn’t disappointed.

This star-crossed story about a young woman who cannot speak to humans because of an ancient curse will have your heart throbbing.

Can the curse be lifted? You’ll have to read it to find out.

Let’s just say, the ending is not disappointing.

This is the description from the Amazon.com page:

“A sweeping stand-alone fantasy romance from Kiera Cass, author of the beloved, bestselling Selection series.

Kahlen is a Siren—bound to serve the Ocean by luring humans to their watery graves with her voice, which is deadly to any human who hears it. Akinli is human—a kind, handsome boy who’s everything Kahlen ever dreamed of. Falling in love puts them both in danger… but will Kahlen risk everything to follow her heart?

This star-crossed YA romance is sure to captivate readers who grew up loving The Little Mermaid or fans of Jennifer Donnelly’s Waterfire Saga.

Originally self-published, The Siren has been completely rewritten and redesigned for print.”
