When She Quits Her Job and Starts Her Own Business

Kate Daniels is a woman after my own heart…

By John Irvin

I was quite proud of Kate Daniels when she did what I did a few years ago. Quitting your traditional job and starting your own business is a scary thing…especially when the clients don’t seem to wanna show up at your doorstep with open arms and lots of Benjamin Franklins.

With the Beast Lord as her mate now, nobody wants to chance getting on his or her bad side. Naturally, they’re going to stay away.

So when someone is finally willing to take that chance, you know Kate will be willing to accept.

When I started this fifth book in the Kate Daniels series, Magic Slays, I was already opening to the first chapter with high expectations. The next week was a whirlwind of enjoyment as I was not disappointed…AGAIN!

Ilona Andrews—the husband and wife team—really know how to spin a good yarn, weave a great tale, and all those old clichés!

I hope my own writing will one day match theirs.

But, as for you, my dear reader, you should definitely click through one of these affiliate links and collect the fourth installment. I’ll use my Sith mind tricks on you.

Reaching across the internet waves, I’ll contact your brain…*monotonous drone* you will order this series.

Here’s the link:

MAGIC SLAYS by ILONA ANDREWS.

If my mind tricks haven’t convinced you to grab your complete collection copies, here’s what the Amazonian gods have to say.

“In this novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling urban fantasy series, war-plagued Atlanta has never been so deadly…Good thing Kate Daniels is on the job.

Kate Daniels may have quit the Order of Knights of Merciful Aid, but she’s still knee-deep in paranormal problems. Or she would be if she could get someone to hire her. Starting her own business has been more challenging than she thought it would be—now that the Order is disparaging her good name. Plus, many potential clients are afraid of getting on the bad side of the Beast Lord, who just happens to be Kate’s mate.

So when Atlanta’s premier Master of the Dead calls to ask for help with a vampire on the loose, Kate leaps at the chance of some paying work. But it turns out that this is not an isolated incident, and Kate needs to get to the bottom of it—fast, or the city and everyone dear to her may pay the ultimate price…”

The Boy who would be a Thief

If it were up to the gods, Percy would be put to death for stealing Zeus’s lightning bolt…or did he?

By John Irvin

So here is another series that I missed out on growing up, but I got to experience as an adult and, I think, enjoyed it more because of that.

The Percy Jackson series is a fantastic fantasy with clean humor because of its focus on kids.

I had seen the movies, disappointed they did not continue. I’d been recommended the books by several friends.

I’d seen the memes and the cartoons.

Finally, I found a friend who had more than one copy of the entire book series.

He was willing to sell me the box set for a good price.

So, when I read one book and needed to continue with the next fast, thanks to the cliffhanger, I had the next four ready wand waiting.

That’s why I’m recommending this box set for today.

For an awesome price on Amazon, you get all five books of this adventure!

PERCY JACKSO AND THE OLYMPIANS by RICK RIORDAN.

If my words haven’t convinced you to grab your complete collection copies, here’s what Amazon has to say.

“Accompany the son of the sea god Poseidon and his other demigod friends as they go on a series of quests that will have them facing monsters, gods, and conniving figures from Greek mythology. Do they have what it takes to save the Olympians from an ancient enemy?

Whether it is for readers who are experiencing Percy’s funny and thrilling adventures for the first time, or for fans who want to devour the saga again, this gift will be prized by readers aged 8-80.

This beloved series, read in schools across the world, has inspired two motion pictures and a Broadway musical. It is currently in development for a television series on Disney+”

Do NOT miss out: PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS.

There’s a School hidden in the Highlands of Scotland

I’m a few decades late with my promotion, but YouTube wasn’t a thing back then.

By John Irvin

Here’s a funny story. You know how I grew up in the 90s? If you’ve been following me any bit these past couple of years since I started the blog and the year since I started my YouTube channel, you’ll know this.

Well, you know how the Harry Potter series is a thing for 90s kids? Even the early millennials are fans usually. So, JK Rowling persisted through rejection from stupid people who didn’t know what they would be missing out on.

Now she’s a multi-millionaire from this entire franchise and an inspiration to almost every struggling authorpreneur.

Well, I’m going to be flat out open here. I did not actually start reading the books until last year! Can you believe that? Even the movies, it was only two years ago that I watched the whole series for the first time.

You see, having grown up in Eastern Europe, I missed out on a few things. Of course, I also experienced things probably 95% of my generation has never experienced. It’s a give and take.

But I’m now caught up, I think. Almost…at least. I’ve watched the whole series three times through now and only have one more book to read and I’ll have completed it.

I’m almost a pure-blood wizard, according to some ratings.

Anyways, I just found the entire book series for just $50 on Amazon! All seven books for ONLY fifty bucks. That’s under ten dollars each book. I believe that is an awesome price and worthwhile.

I’m already adding it to my to-be-bought list!

Make sure you don’t miss out on adding this stupendous collection to your bookshelves…that is, if I’m not late and you haven’t already!

COMPLETE COLLECTION OF HARRY POTTER by JK ROWLING.

I figured since today is my 249th blog post and my 95th YouTube episode, it would be high time I spotlighted this fantastic book set!

If my words haven’t convinced you to grab your complete collection copies, here’s Amazon has to say.

“Now for the first time ever, J.K. Rowling’s seven bestselling Harry Potter books are available in a stunning paperback boxed set! The Harry Potter series has been hailed as “one for the ages” by Stephen King and “a spellbinding saga’ by USA Today. And most recently, The New York Times called Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows the “fastest selling book in history.” This is the ultimate Harry Potter collection for Harry Potter fans of all ages!”

Do NOT miss out on the book set: HARRY POTTER.

When Kit Livingstone becomes a Ley Line Master

Still on the hunt for the skin map, Kit and his friends are growing desperate as they uncover more of the truth.

By John Irvin

This Bright Empires series by Stephen Lawhead just gets better and better the further you delve into the series.

After reading the first two books, I picked up The Spirit Well, knowing I wouldn’t be disappointed.

          Stephen Lawhead always comes through.

With the twisting plots and the conniving villains, Kit, Mina, and everyone else is in a battle for the multi-verse.

If you haven’t grabbed books 1 and 2, you really need to do that and also snatch this one too.

If I remember correctly, each new book to the Bright Empires series had me staying up later and later the more I read.

I also fell for one of the girls, yes, I know she’s fiction. That’s probably a problem, but oh well. At least, I’m honest about it.

I wonder if any of my readers could guess which character I fell for. I’ll give you a hint, so far, I haven’t mentioned her in my blogs about each of these fantasy thrillers.

I think, you’ll have to buy the books and read them then guess, because I’ve been mentioning a lot of characters.

Here’s the link:

THE SPIRIT WELL by STEPHEN LAWHEAD.

Before I go, I’m going to mention yesterday’s blog. It was focused on a non-fiction book. For some reason, I just noticed that I’d called in an urban fantasy thriller—my brain must have been stuck on the previous blog from the day before. So I’m sorry about that.

Now, back to The Spirit Well, here’s Amazon’s description:

The Search for the Map—and the secret behind its cryptic code—intensifies in a quest across time, space, and multiple realities.

But what if the true treasure isn’t the map at all . . . what if the map marks something far greater? Something one world cannot contain? Those who desire to unlock that mystery are in a race to possess the secret—for good or evil.

Kit Livingstone is mastering the ability to travel across realities using ley lines and has forged a link from the Bone House, a sacred lodge made of animal bones, to the fabled Spirit Well, a place of profound power.

His friend Mina is undercover in a Spanish monastery high in the Pyrenees, learning all she can from a monk named Brother Lazarus. Still determined to find Kit, she is beginning to experience a greater destiny than she can fathom.

Cassandra Clarke is overseeing an archaeological dig in Arizona when a chance encounter transports her to 1950s Damascus. There, she finds herself unwillingly drawn to the Seekers—the last living remnants of the Zetetic Society who need her help to track down the missing Cosimo Livingstone and his grandson Kit.

But there are darker forces at work in the universe whose agents always seem to be one step ahead of the rest—and they’re all desperate to gain the ultimate prize in this treasure hunt where the stakes increase at every turn. At the heart of the mystery lies the Spirit Well.”

Do NOT miss out on the book: THE SPIRIT WELL.

In Freedom’s Cause

When you’re a Scot, the pipes call your heart, but Freedom calls everyone who can hear it.

By John Irvin

So last night, my Dad and I finally managed to watch our mutual favorite movie, Braveheart. We like to watch it at least once a year together. The rest of the family doesn’t even care that much for it, so it’s special to me because it’s his and my favorite.

It got me thinking about the book this morning and how I enjoyed reading it. It’s just like the movie, although it took a little longer.

But that’s actually not the one I want to promote today. I started writing this blog, intending to recommend the book, but then decided to go a different route.

The author of Braveheart recently wrote a nonfiction called, Living the Braveheart Life. Randall Wallace is a descendant of the real Sir William Wallace and is responsible for conception of this critically acclaimed film.

I stumbled upon Living the Braveheart Life by accident while surfing Amazon for books related to Braveheart. When I saw this, I knew it would be a good one and ordered it.

After reading it, I bought my dad a copy for Christmas. So, if I’d recommend it to my dad, I’d recommend it to anyone reading.

Here’s the link:

LIVING THE BRAVEHEART LIFE by RANDALL WALLACE.

Now, I will state upfront, this book is directed more toward men. It’s to teach us how to be better men in this postmodern world, using tenements from Braveheart.

But, perhaps women could benefit from it, using it to understand and perceive what the right kind of man should act like? Perhaps.

Either way, if you want a good inspirational and motivational read, this is it.

Do NOT miss out on the urban fantasy thriller: LIVING THE BRAVEHEART LIFE.

When Magic Bleeds

When family ties get in the way, can Kate and Curran really stand a chance?

By John Irvin

The Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews just keeps getting better and better. I laugh, I cry, I snort (trying to hide my reactions from people who sit across the airport aisle from me, looking at me like I’m a weirdo) and just enjoy the dry humor of Kate and the lordliness of Curran.

With just the right bit of romance thrown into the midst of this dark urban fantasy, Magic Bleeds, brings you to a new twist in Kate’s story.

When she and Curran discovered who the new perpetrator was, I thought, “This is going to get interesting.” As if it hadn’t been interesting before!

Every book has brought more surprises and revelations from Kate’s past or her coming future.

You really do not want to stop collecting this series!

Here’s the link:

MAGIC BLEEDS by ILONA ANDREWS.

Since I’m sharing the links with Amazon, I want to give their book description:

“Kate Daniels works for the Order of the Knights of Merciful Aid, officially as a liaison with the mercenary guild. Unofficially, she cleans up the paranormal problems no one else wants to handle—especially if they involve Atlanta’s shapeshifting community.

When she’s called in to investigate a fight at the Steel Horse, a bar midway between the territories of the shapeshifters and the necromancers, Kate quickly discovers there’s a new player in town. One who’s been around for thousands of years—and rode to war at the side of Kate’s father.

This foe may be too much even for Kate and Curran, the Lord of the Beasts, to handle. Because this time, Kate will be taking on family…”
